NNEGC "Energoatom" put forward project, implemented jointly with PJSC "Turboatom" for State Prize in field of science and technology for 2018.
The work "Development and implementation of condensers of steam turbines of nuclear power plants" was accepted by Committee on State Awards for consideration. Presented work is devoted to creation of new generation "block-modular" condensers for 1000 MW turbine units that meet modern requirements for energy efficiency and reliability, both for modernization of existing NPP and for construction of new ones.
During development and implementation of project, complex scientific tasks were solved. In its solution took part not only specialists of Turboatom, but also partners of the enterprise: Institute for Problems of Mechanical Engineering, Institute of Electric Welding named after Ye.O. Paton, as well as Energoatom, that is strategic customer and partner of Turboatom. Group of applicants for the Prize includes experts from Turboatom, representatives of Energoatom and employees of mentioned institutions.
It should be also noted that in addition to scientific problems, the work takes into account world experience. At the same time, in comparison with condensers that are created by various world manufacturers for other customers, solutions applied by Turboatom are featured by novelty. It consists not only in design of condenser, but also in many technological solutions. The work put forward for the Prize includes results of operation of new condensers at Unit No. 3 of Zaporizhzhya NPP and Units Nos 1 and 2 of South-Ukraine NPP. On these Units condensers are already in operation, and they have got good results. Currently, Turboatom is working on manufacture of condenser for Unit No. 4 of Zaporizhzhya NPP and is preparing to manufacture equipment for following units of both stations.
As a result of introduction of new generation condensers, positive economic effect was obtained at Ukrainian and foreign NPPs: increase in electric power was achieved on the same reactor equipment. Estimated economic effect of introduction of condenser at Ukrainian nuclear power plants with 1000 MW units is more than 2.6 billion hryivnas. Creation of condenser design to replace physically worn out (existing) 1000 MW turbine-type condensers at operating Ukrainian NPPs, designing and construction of new NPP is a timely step necessary to ensure Ukraine's energy security. Thus, implementation of the country's Energy Strategy and ability to operate NPP equipment in conjunction with power systems of European countries are ensured.
