16 July 2019, Kyiv PSPP was completed after rehabilitation of hydro unit No 2, which was successfully performed by JSC "Turboatom" jointly with SE "Plant "Electrovazhmash".
Main purpose of rehabilitation of units was to increase its capacity and to continue operating for 40 years. Thanks to installed new turbine and generator, growth of capacity of hydro unit No 2 is now 5.3 MW. Thus, according to results of rehabilitation capacity of the unit increased to 47.1 MW. On new runner efficiency is increased by 3% and is 95.15%, which will ensure a more productive use of water resources.
In industrial operation hydro unit No 2 will be commissioned on 01 October 2019. From July to September there will be stage of experimental operation, during which will take place identification of conformity of equipment and technical specifications, experts will check functions of the system and confirm system's ability to operate in industrial conditions.
According to Ihor Syrota, Director General of PJSC "Ukrhydroenergo", work was carried out in accordance with contract for rehabilitation of the hydro units of Kyiv PSPP Nos 2, 4, 6 at the expense of the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
"We, together with our partner, "Electrovazhmash", took part in tender for rehabilitation of Kyiv PSPP and in competitions won from such manufactures as consortium ANDRITZ HYDRO GmbH (Germany) and Voith Hydro GmbH & Co. KG (Austria). According to received contract, "Turboatom" and "Electrovazhmash" carry out rehabilitation of three units, namely design, manufacturing, testing, supply, installation and commissioning of three Francis type turbines and three generators, - said General Director of "Turboatom" Victor Subotin, Under him main turbine components, including runner, distributor modernization of shaft of turbines were manufactured at plant on its own capacities without involvement of outside organizations. Such organization of production helps to ensure maximum economic benefit from implementation of the contract.
EBRD Representative in Ukraine Jean-Erik de Zagon stressed that in general, "Ukrhydroenergo" remains to replace 16 out of 100 turbines, three of them - at Kyiv PSPP, in frame of agreement with the EBRD and the EIB. "This project will cost 370 million Euros. It increase share of renewable energy sources in Ukraine and bring Ukrainian energy sector to European standards.
