Heads of “Energoatom” and “Turboatom” signed 5-year program of equipment modernization of 15 units of four Ukrainian NPPs

28.08.2019

President of NNEGC “Energoatom” Yuriy Nedashkovsky and General Director of JSC “Turboatom” Viktor Subotin 27 August 2019 in Energodar signed Program for modernization of equipment of 15 Units of Ukrainian NPPs for 5-year period up to 2024.

In addition, agreement was signed between SS “Atomcomplect” NNEGC “Energoatom” and “Turboatom” for manufacture and supply “block-module” type condenser to replace K-1000-60 / 1500-2 turbine condenser at Unit 5 Zaporizhzhya NPP. It will provide increase reliability of operation of unit and increase its capacity by 25-60 MW. According to tender procedures, contract amounted to 485 million hryivn. Delivery time of condenser is May-July 2020. Similar condensers, manufactured by “Turboatom”, have already been successfully operated at units No 2, No 3 and No 4 of Zaporizhzhya NPP, units No 1 and No 2 of the South-Ukraine NPP, and at unit No 3 of South-Ukraine NPP installation of condenser is in progress.

“Turboatom” expressed its readiness for next few years to manufacture new condensers for units No 1 and No 6 of Zaporizhzhya NPP, units No 1, No 2, No 3 and No 4 of Rivne NPP, No 1 and No 2 of Khmelnitsk NPP.

According to Yury Nedashkovsky, four years ago new and powerful start was made for cooperation, which consists not only in maintenance of turbine fleet, but also in replacement and modernization of equipment. “This will allow us to increase and improve efficiency of nuclear power plants, and to increase production of electricity, which is important in new market conditions when every additional kilowatt-hour produces additional revenue for our Company. We significantly expand our cooperation in frameworks of import substitution program and this is especially important in current political environment. We also discussed long-term repair program - replacing those spare parts that have used up their resources,” he said.

General Director of JSC “Turboatom” Viktor Subotin thanked “Energoatom's” management for fruitful and mutually beneficial cooperation. “In recent years, we have really become more than just contractors for “Energoatom” we have become partners in development of the country's power engineering. Amount of modernization of NNEGC “Energoatom” has been set at over 6 billion hryvnias over five years. In today's realities, this is, of course, huge money for loading our enterprise. And these are 3.5 thousands of workers, their families, these are social programs of Kharkiv region, which we also define. That is why our cooperation is very important. I want to thank on behalf of “Turboatom” team, on behalf of “Energoatom” power engineers, Yuri Olexandrovych, you, first of all, as head of the Company, which is doing everything possible for dynamic development of the whole complex of energy, "Turboatom" and power engineering of Ukraine”, - said Viktor Subotin.

NPP equipment modernization program includes two main sections, first of which involves replacement of 8 turbine condensers for NPPs. Including, within scope of import substitution, replacement of 4 condensers of Russian manufacture is planned. Total capacity increase of nuclear power units after replacement of condensers will be about 400 MW.

The second section of the Program provides for modernization of flow parts of cylinders of 220 MW and 1000 MW turbines. Modernization includes replacement of moving blades on existing rotors and diaphragms that will increase capacity of turbine and its efficiency. In framework of the Program it is planned to modernize high pressure cylinders of Zaporizhzhya NPP turbines starting in 2020. It is expected that modernization of turbines will increase capacity and efficiency of existing Ukrainian NPPs by 10% that will increase capacity by 70-100 MW on each unit and achieve capacity of unit 1100 MW.
