Representatives of the EU and the Ministry of Economy visited “Turboatom”

12.09.2019

Representatives of the European Union and the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, who arrived to Kharkiv as part of the meeting of the Ukraine-EU working group, visited JSC “Turboatom” on September 10, 2019. The guests were greeted by Viktor Subotin, General Director of the enterprise.

He acquainted them with the production capabilities of the enterprise. In the workshops Nos. 50, 53, 73, 83 and 55, the unique modernized equipment of the plant was presented, including: special processing centers with CNC Waldrich Coburg (Germany), Skoda (Czech Republic), Innocenti (Italy). A total of 6 such centers have been installed at the plant with the ability to process complex-profile parts using 5-axis CNC machine.

Viktor Subotin presented the guests with modernized CNC domestic equipment in the blade workshop. Such modernization was carried out on 15 pieces of equipment. The unique portable FARO Prime coordinate measuring machine with Delcam software was also demonstrated, which allowed the workshop to significantly speed up and simplify the marking of hydraulic turbine blades for their further processing, and reduce the cost of large metal-intensive equipment. The guests saw large-size casting samples, learned about the unique plant’s experience in welding of rotors, which is not done by enterprises in other countries of the world.

According to the General Director, on the whole, the modernization of the equipment allowed “Turboatom” to reduce the cycles of preparation and production of turbine equipment by 1.5 to 2 times. “The plant at its own expense has managed to create modern production in its old buildings over the past 10 years,” Viktor Subotin emphasized.

As Volodymyr Mishchenko, a Head of the Industrial Development Department of Kharkiv Regional State Administration, noted during a visit to “Turboatom”, it is significant that the meeting of the working group was held in Kharkiv, because there are two flagships of engineering – “Turboatom” and “Electrotyazhmash”. “Holding an event of this level is important for further establishing cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union in the direction of industrial power engineering: this helps Ukraine in the certification of domestic products, its entry into European markets, as well as the creation of joint projects between domestic enterprises and EU enterprises,” stressed Volodymyr Mishchenko.

On September 11, the Chief Engineer of the plant, Grygory Ishchenko, spoke at a meeting of the working group. He noted that “Turboatom” belongs to strategic enterprises of Ukraine and is one of the leading turbine building companies in the world. The plant produces sophisticated high-tech energy equipment for the needs of Ukraine, CIS countries and far abroad. Today plant turbines reliably operate at power plants in 45 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and America. Talking about the technological capabilities of “Turboatom”, Grygory Ishchenko dwelt in detail on the structure of production: mechanical assembly, blank and welding, foundry.

According to him, the technological capabilities and the global modernization made it possible for “Turboatom” to return to its own production the work that had previously been done through external cooperation, and to organize new production sites at the enterprise.

In his report, the Chief Engineer paid special attention to the topic of import substitution. According to him, this was made possible thanks to the modernization of the enterprise. “We have mastered the production of 5-stage blades made of titanium alloy for low pressure rotors, which allowed us to replace blades of other manufacturers. Our products are competitive and can reduce installation cycles at nuclear power plants,” said Grygory Ishchenko.
