Metro station “Moscovskiy Avenue” was renamed for “Turboatom”.
Corresponding decision was made today at session of Kharkiv City Council. 68 Deputies voted for it. “That is right, we respect this enterprise,” said Kharkiv City Mayor Genady Kernes.
It should be reminded that request to rename metro station “Moscovskiy Avenue” to “Turboatom” was received by city council from labor collective of the enterprise and was voiced to Genady Kernes on 10 October during personal reception of the mayor at the plant by General Director of “Turboatom” Viktor Subotin.
City Mayor supported this idea, saying: “Personally, I support. “Turboatom” is leader of our mechanical engineering, known all over the world. It is worthy passing all difficulties, entering new markets. Viktor Subotin saved team, he is able to return youth to industry. I`m sure that toponymic commission and deputies will vote in favor.
In his turn, General Director of JSC “Turboatom” Viktor Subotin noted that at personal reception of City Mayor there was a significant event. “Genady Adolfovych immediately responded to proposal of the enterprise's labor collective to rename metro station “Moskovskiy Avenue” to “Turboatom” and gave assignment to relevant services. I want to say that it is a great joy and honor for the plant staff. We worked for a long time to be marked in history of the city and its map.”
According to City Commission for Toponymics and Protection of Historical and Cultural Environment, architectural and artistic appearance of the station expresses industrial theme - this is emphasized by lamps of large size that look like turbine rotors. Design name of the station was “Turbine Plant”, but by the time of its opening it was affixed name “Moskovskiy Avenue”.
