"Turboatom" was visited by delegations of "Holtec International" and "Mitsubishi Electric Corporation"

JSC “Turboatom” was visited by delegations of American company Holtec International and Japanese company Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. General Director of “Turboatom” Viktor Subbotin demonstrated to the guests manufacturingcapacities of the plant, they visited workshops No. 83, 53, 55, 72, 73.

According to General Director of “Turboatom” Viktor Subbotin, the meeting was initiated by Holtec International, which is developing a major global program for creating small nuclear modular NPPs in Ukraine with capacity of 160 MWe. Representatives of “Mitsubishi Electric Corporation” took part in meeting to develop this topic.

During the visit, representatives of Holtec and Mitsubishi Electric discussed with management of “Turboatom” possibilities of potential partnership and products. As Mr. Thomas Marcille, Vice President of Reactor Technologies Holtec International & Chief Nuclear OfficerSMR, LLC, told reporters “Turboatomcan be a key partner of ours,to participate in our program for manufacture of power units for NPPs with capacity of 160 MW with SMR-160 small modular reactors”. He noted that the SMR-160 NPP offers real business and energy security opportunities for Turboatom and Ukraine, allowing secure and carbon-neutral energy supply and delivery infrastructure and systems in Ukraine and Europe. According to Thomas Marcille, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation is a major long-term partner of Holtec International in its global SMR-160 program.

The meeting involved an extensive tour and discussion of the manufacturing factories and equipment being manufactured at Turboatom. Mr. Marcille asked many questions about manufacturing processes and quality, considering Holtec International opinion as a designer and fabricator of nuclear equipment. “Today I examined the numerous manufacturing workshops of Turboatom and saw unique opportunities for manufacturing steam turbines and other important industrial machine products”.

Senior Manager, Overseas Marketing section of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Mr.Naofumi Wada, noted that a partnership with Turboatom would be a very good development. “We see Turboatom as our potential partner in the manufactureof SMR-160 major equipment for NPPs“- said Wada.

Viktor Subbotin said that now 3,400 people are working at the plant. In recent years radical modernization of production has been carried out and its volumes are constantly growing. “We demonstrated our capabilities and surprised partners. Our plant provides turbines for needs of Ukraine, supplies products abroad. Production capabilities of plant allow us significantly increase scope of supplies of our products. I am confident that we will reach agreement on production of turbines as soon as possible within the framework of cooperation program with Holtec and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation and load “Turboatom” with additional orders,” – emphasized General Director of the enterprise.
